Is a travel system a good idea?

I am registering for the Chicco Cortina Keyfit travel system because it got really great reviews in Consumer Reports. However, I’ve heard some people say that travel systems are very inconvenient and it might be best to start with a snap in stroller at first, then transition to a bigger stroller. Any thoughts on this??

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR ADVICE.

We have it and we love it. We have the green and beige one.

    I love my travel system… http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5621878

It’s super convenient for us at least. We have another car seat the same brand as the travel system so it snaps in to the jogger. We can transition her into the stroller itself as some point although the car seat works just fine for now since she is only 6 months old.

You start with the big stroller then end up with the little ones. I love the travel systems, for the newborn you snap the carseat right on the stroller, and you still have all that storage underneath for the heavy diaperbag when they outgrow the carseat. When they are about 2, potty trained and all you need is a small backpack you will end up with a small umbrella stroller because they are easier to use around stores and smaller space taken up in trunk as well.

The strollers that come in a travel system are usually inferior to strollers sold alone (I do not know anything about the Chico system, though). They are cheaper and poorly made.

i find the travel system strollers way too bulky for in and out of stores, restarunts, etc. My snap n’ go has gotten well worth its $50. It’s so convenient, I’m dreading the next 1.5 lbs when my son outgrows his infant car seat. You may be better off with the snap and go, and a jogger (these are great for everything, not just jogging) and a car seat. best of luck

when I had my son the travel systems had just come out and were like $600 so being a new young mom I just had a regular old stroller and let me tell you having to take a sleeping baby out of the car seat and get them into the stroller sucks!. This time around I found a stroller that was compatible with my infant seat and I love it! My daughter usually falls asleep in the car and I ca get her from the car to the stroller, around the mall and back to the car without even messing with her seat belt, it’s great. You don’t have to get the real fancy ones though, a lot of cheaper ones are out there but are still good quality, your child will be in the infant carrier seat for only about 6 months so why pay a huge amount for it? Like \I said I found a brand new stroller at walmart that worked with the old infant seat I had with my son, I didn’t need to buy a new car seat but still got a travel system.

I think the snap in stroller is a waste. Depending on the baby, you only use the infant seat for about 6 months or so anyways, so after that you can’t use it- why bother with it. I would say get a travel system, and a good baby carrier. I haven’t used my whole travel system for 2 kids now, as I typically would rather pop my babe in a pouch or wrap than lug the carseat in and out. The stroller for the travel system can be used for years, so stick with that!! Congrats and good luck, it’s hard with the first one because you want the newest and best things, and after a while you realize you could have done with out a bunch of it!!

I have that exact travel system. I LOVED it!!! I only say loved because my little guy doesn’t fit in the infant seat anymore. Let me rephrase that, he fits, but I can’t carry it with him in it. The stroller for that system is much more compact than other strollers and turns on a dime. The only two problems I have encountered are the shade on the infant seat is worthless, its not long enough and the infant carrier will not fit in a shopping cart unless you put it in the basket which makes the shopping cart useless. I knew about that feature ahead of time and thought I would be ok with it, but it ended up to be a bit of a pain. Otherwise, it is an awesome system.

We have a travel system. It’s great. We’ve found it to be worth it. The only catch is that the stroller is big and takes up a lot of space in the trunk. So a snap in stroller may be a better idea because I assume it takes up less space.
