What Shannon tells is not quite right, there are certain contries in Europe which do not demand their citizens to hold valid passports when returning home like Germany or the United Kingdom.

For Norway however this passport exemption does not exist. You will need a valid passport.

You should better get your passport renewed at the Embassy in London or the Consulate in Edinburgh.

You can travel to your home country if your passport has expired, but will not be able to gain entrance (travel) to another country until you have renewed it.

To travel anywhere wether it be your home country or not, you have to have a valid passport. So no I'm afraid you'll have to renew it before hand.
